BIO
Julie Tzanni Goldson (b. 1971, Athens, Greece) is a ceramic artist of Greek and German heritage, based on the island of Sifnos, Cyclades, Greece. Working with textured stoneware vessels and sculptural forms, she is best known for her soft, organic creations that honour the aesthetics of impermanence and imperfection. She also creates functional ware and porcelain jewellery.
Her work centres on the creation of vessels that embody the fluidity of the sea, the rhythms of nature, memory, and the passage of Time. Characterized by tactile surfaces and flowing forms, her practice explores themes of movement, transformation, and human experience.
Notable series include Waves of Connection, which channels the motion of the sea through the metaphor of the vessel—as both boat and ceramic form—to convey ideas of cultural exchange, human connection, and the sea as a bridge rather than a barrier. The work also alludes to the growing global scarcity of fresh water, particularly in the Cyclades, reminding us of our shared responsibility to protect this vital resource.
Another significant series, Rhythm of Becoming, investigates personal rhythms, life patterns, and the passage of Time through intricate carving techniques, ancient Greek forms, and a lichen-effect glaze. Evoking the diversity of human emotions, stories, and journeys, it explores the non-linearity of Time and the deeply personal paths shaped by our choices. A recurring undulating line traces the continuous flow of life, echoing Heraclitus' concept of panta rhei (τὰ πάντα ῥεῖ)—that everything is in constant change.
Julie Tzanni Goldson has exhibited internationally, including participation in 1000 Vases at Gallery Joseph, in collaboration with Paris Design Week, and Maison&Objet, in Paris, France. Her work is held in various private collections in Greece, Europe, the UK, the USA and Australia.
