The sea is both a physical landscape and a space of encounter. For centuries it has carried people, cultures, memories, and ideas, dissolving the boundaries between distant shores. Waves of Connection draws upon this enduring relationship between humanity and the maritime world, using the ceramic vessel as a form through which movement, exchange, and belonging are explored.
Each hand-built vessel develops through an intuitive dialogue with clay. Built using slab, coil, and hand-forming techniques, the forms evolve gradually, responding to touch and the fluid rhythms of making. Undulating rims, weathered textures, and mineral-like surfaces evoke coastlines shaped by waves, wind, and salt, where transformation occurs through continuous interaction rather than sudden change.
The vessel functions simultaneously as container, landscape, and passage. It holds traces of the hand while suggesting the movement of boats across water, carrying stories between places and generations. Rather than representing the sea directly, the works embody its rhythms—its capacity to connect, reshape, and sustain.
Rooted in the landscapes of the Cycladic islands, the series reflects upon the interconnected relationship between people and the natural world. Each vessel becomes a quiet meditation on movement, memory, and the invisible currents that bind individual lives within a larger shared existence.
At the same time, the work draws attention to the growing fragility of water itself. While the sea has long been a source of connection and life, fresh water is becoming an increasingly scarce resource worldwide, and particularly across the Cycladic islands, where prolonged drought and unsustainable consumption place mounting pressure on limited reserves. The vessels thus become quiet reminders of both abundance and vulnerability, inviting reflection on our relationship with water—not only as a cultural and symbolic element, but as a precious resource whose future depends on greater awareness, respect, and collective responsibility.
