Yin Yang
and
Island Zen
Jewellery Collection Summer 2017
Yin and yang describes how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another. Many tangible dualities (such as light and dark, fire and water, black and white) are thought of as physical manifestations of the duality symbolized by yin and yang.
In this collection I used the contrast of black unglazed porcelain and white glazed porcelain with the natural feeling of the leafs series. Olive leafs, angelicas, caper, mastiha, oleander, ivy, all found in the wild nature of Sifnos.
Island Zen. Wabi sabi is the aesthetic of the Zen philosophy and is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete." Characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy, and appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural objects and processes.
Yin Yang as well as Wabi Sabi is everywhere around us every day. May we aspire to balance these natural forces to find peace and happiness in our lifes!
